Visualization is a way to cross reference all the other findings. Dr. Barnwell is an expert in looking for subtle changes in your posture and movement which could indicate any problems. When a nerve becomes irritated, the cellular tissues that the nerve controls also as a result becomes irritated. Chronic irritation along the spine can produce muscular knots, trigger points, tension, and imbalances ultimately leading you to feel tight, restricted, and uncomfortable.
2. Static Palpation
This is simply the process of feeling (or palpating) your spine in a stationary (or static) position. Feeling for the presence of swelling (or edema), tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in the muscles and other tissues of your back. A vertebral subluxation* wreaks havoc not just in one part of the spine but in all parts of the spine.
*Subluxation – This is a misalignment of a vertebra or other joint that causes tenderness, restriction, inflammation, and spasm. It can also affect nerves close by.
3. Motion Palpation
This process involves feeling the spine while moving and bending it at various angles. To determine how easily or difficult each segment in your spine moves. For your body to last and have life it must have motion. Everything we do in chiropractic is about correcting motion, and pressure on vital tissues. Vertebral subluxations inhibit proper motion due and begin a degenerative process.
4. X-Ray Analysis
Dr. Barnwell is able to visualize the entire structure of your spine. This is helpful in evaluating joint and disc integrity. It is so important to be able to visualize the structures. The purpose is not simply to detect misalignments, damage, or other abnormal findings but for you to become aware of what is going on inside of you. It enables you and the doctor to detect and correct problems before they get out of hand.
